"Les Trois Rois is characterized by elegant, classical architecture and French flair. The completely reimagined building on Schifflände is inspired by this French classicism but also incorporates new elements in a contemporary language: these include unusual combinations of materials and surprising light and color. Each floor is a uniquely designed experiential world, offering space for public, urban life as well as places where the hotel guest can find a sense of calm, relaxation, and intimacy," says architect Jacques Herzog, founding partner of Herzog & de Meuron, about the remodelling of this historic building.

It is part of the Grand Hôtel Les Trois Rois ensemble located directly on the Rhine with suites, a spa predicated on Japanese philosophy, adaptable rooms for celebrations, conferences and banquets, as well as the BANKS restaurant and a cigar lounge, The Council. In addition to these interior areas, our lighting design also includes the new outdoor illumination of the entire Grand Hôtel ensemble. It is one of the oldest urban hotels in Europe.

Les Trois Rois is one of the urban hotels in Europe. With its elegant classical architecture and French flair, it is the premier address in Basel. The front building of the Grand Hotel was redesigned and refurbished by architects Herzog & de Meuron.

As part of this remodelling, for which KARDORFF also provided the lighting design, the exterior lighting for the entire complex was renewed. The lighting was implemented using projection technology, which enables precise and balanced illumination of the facade.
