Ilirija Sportcity
Ilirija Sportcity incorporates a listed entrance building dating from 1929, two Olympic pools, multipurpose halls, and several other facilities — all beneath a single 12,000 m² roof. The complex also acts as an urban link, re-establishing the connection between Ljubljana's old town and the nearby Tivoli Park through its internal passageways. Countless views and vantage points provide a frequent connection to the park, the street, the railway, and the city.
The design by KARDORFF, including light lines on the hall’s ceiling, emphasises the roof’s all-encompassing effect. The indirectly emitting luminaires provide pleasant ambient light and have significantly less glare for the athletes. For the hall ceiling, we also proposed a corrugated sheet metal with special perforation to evoke the appearance of a slightly overcast sky. A solution that creates a balanced atmosphere and serves as a cohesive design element throughout the entire complex.
