Bebelplatz is one of Berlin’s most important urban squares on the main boulevard Unter den Linden. Framed by historical buildings, such as the State Opera, Cathedral of St. Hedwig, and the Humboldt University, the square is defined at nightfall by
the uniformly lit facades. For this project, we developed a light pole which unites all the necessary modules into one very minimized form.
Building Type:
Urban Space +
The square is a dark audience around which the urban stage is arranged. The illumination of the vertical surfaces alone creates this extraordinary impression.
Area:
Facade +
The perpendicular lighting from five meter-high poles avoids the casting of hard shadows. The reflectors distribute the light evenly on the facades.
Exteriors +
The bright facades outline the dark area of the square, in the middle of which the book burning memorial is lit in strong contrast.
Lighting Technology:
Artificial Light +
The poles were designed by us and are available from Schréder as the patented serial product "ModulLum".
